Dear readers

All are welcome to leave comments.

In Dayak Iban system of belief there is no Aki Andan but only the legendary Ini Andan. Aki Andan is deliberately used here merely to denote a male counterpart and not in any way to be construed as her spouse as there being none. Ini Andan occupies a very special social and spiritual station. She is also in possession of many special skills, which among others, the ability to foretell with accuracy what is to come in the near future and also often the saviour of the wounded and downtrodden. Not specifically endowed with such skills or abilities, hence her modern male counterpart has to use the 'teropong' to look into the distant future.

Correct, correct, correct--looks like me, sounds like me

Malaysiakini reported that the Kuala Lumpur High Court today ruled that the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the Lingam clip cannot be challenged.

Korek, korek, korek--looks like me, sounds like me but since it has been copied in different format it cannot be me. After much korek-mengorek, terus terkorek the big secret of big people. But amazingly how V. K. Lingam was entrusted with the brokering for appointment of judges. When Tun Salleh Abas and several other judges of the Supreme Court were illegally dismissed by Mahathir regime, many people thought we were unreasonable when strongly protested. We could foresee the death of the judiciary when its independence was lost.

The KL High Court had made the correct decision when it ruled that the findings of the Royal Commission of Inquiry cannot be challenged. I could not imagine how Lingam's counsel proceeded to challenge the finding of the Royal Commission. The name speaks for its non-challengeable status and immune from any legal challenge.

The five-member panel of commissioners, in their report, had found the video clip showing Datuk V.K.Lingam in a telephone conversation with former chief justice Tun Ahmad Fairuz Sheikh Abdul Halim over judicial appointment to be authentic.

The commission recommended that appropriate course of action be taken against six individuals — Lingam, Vincent Tan, Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor, Dr Mahathir Mohamad and two former chief justices Ahmad Fairuz and Mohd Eusoff Chin — for misconduct.

A new bill had just been passed in Parliament on appointment of judges. However, it has sparked certain controversies. Prime Minister Abdullah Badawi has promised to come up with reform before vacating his post as Prime Minister. Many have viewed that the bill does not bring the desired reform to restore the independence of the judiciary.

Is this a case of justice hurried justice buried? Just to get thing done before leaving office, so rush it through without in depth study. That is the spirit of Malaysia Boleh.

Dear Henry,
Those in the know should continue to press upon the NCR landowners not to participate in the Salcra scheme. If we can convince 5 out of 100 NCR landowners, we should consider it a sucess. At the end of the day, it is them, not us, who will suffer from the misadventure in Salcra.
tks
