Gkm2020 in Dayak Baru Weblog on 20 December wrote on the criteria or characteristics of a Dayak Future Leader. It is quite a long article.
His opening paragraph is as follows:
What are the criteria to become a real and responsible serving leader?
Would it be:
One who asks the right questions or one who provides the right answers?
A shepherd or a catalyst?
A protector or a destroyer?
A savior or a terminator?
A defender or a spectator?
The one “numpang” in the driver’s seat or the navigator who sets the direction?
Would a future leader be a financial architect, a social architect, an educational architect, community development architect or the green architect?
And part of his concluding paragraph is as follows:
The timing for this article is great, as many of our Dayak leaders in the Government and/or organizations or associations are faced with the choice of survival in terms of “not dying” or survival by “succeeding”. In these pressing times, the choice of not dying may be tempting.
However, staying focused on: the true responsibility (Yang Bertanggungjawab); to serve the rakyat (Yang Berkidmat); courage, strength and honor (Yang Berani); transparency and accountability (Yang Benar); empowering and listening to the grassroots (Yang Berbudi) and visionary and goals (Yang Berjuang) of a leader is what leadership is all about. That’s positive “YB” not “Yang Berbohong” or “Yang Bersekongkol” other negative meaning.
---------------------------------------
I thought that was a good piece of writing for those aspiring to be leaders and for the followers to decide which leader to follow. For born leaders, which are of course not many in numbers, they are already endowed with those characteristics.
I just want to add a little bit to that article.
In my mind, in summary, a Dayak leader or Dayak leaders must have the FOUR PILLARS of a man's heart. The four pillars are:
1. The heart of a King, who can provide direction for his Kingdom and also protection for his subjects when his realm is at risk;
2. The heart of a warrior, whose bravery is untainted and willing to suffer risk for the safety of others;
3. The heart of a mentor, who gives life coaching and whose passion for the same knows no bound;
4. The heart of a friend, who is ever willing to be a man's best friend.
The keyword to be a leader is 'selfless'. The four pillars above have one thing in common-selflessness and sacrifice. Like a candle burning itself to give light to others. Mahatma Gandhi is a fine example, whose soul is beyond purchase. He continuously gave light to others and finally with his own life.
Edith Wharton wrote, "There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it".
My conviction is that, not just being Dayak leaders. One should be a leader for all. Because the love for others and the passion for the service of others transcends racial or religious lines.
May all those who suffer in the service of others be given special mercy in God's divine kingdom, Amen.

Sadly, to find a dayak leader of that calibre is too far fetch at least for now. Jabu has all the opposite ideals that make a great leader. Thus far unless the dayaks are willing to unite, a leader is not forth coming at any time soon. Maybe the next generation will produce a modern "Rentap" to lead the lost generation of present dayaks.
Henry,
Thank you for the invitation to re-look at what should a Dayak Future Leader should be in term of personal characters and qualities of leadership. I will post personal comments in due course.

ERROR :
" .. what should a Dayak Future Leader should ..." TO READ " what a Dayak leader should " . The first "should" is irrelevant. Nendak
i m testing comment in the blog. i tried several times it seems my comment didnt appear here.

To Simpang Punda: I am sorry about your several unsuccessful attempts. In fact this blog is not moderated and has never been moderated all and anybody can post anything here and at anytime. I have NEVER DELETED any comments except my own reply to comments that contained some spelling or grammatical errors but were immmediately replaced.
There must have been technical problems I guess. Keep trying please.
Correction:
"In fact this blog is not moderated and has never been moderated all and anybody can post anything here and at anytime".
The word "at" is missing after the word "never been moderated" but before the word "all".
So the sentence should now read:
"In fact this blog is not moderated and has never been moderated at all and anybody can post anything here and at anytime".
thank you Henry. problem solved forward to comment soon.
Mr. henry, good write-up.
Any write-up / article about the closure of WG, formally KOMAG. Lots of news has been out. What's the real scenario? The ass shit turn industrial monster wasn't aware until the closure itself.
To Tsunami: I am practically very busy over the last few days. Hence can't write anything of value.
I'll do a bit of investigation into the closure of Western Digital after Christmas Day.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2009.
Dear Henry,
Well expressed thoughts on "A Dayak Future Leader".
My comments:-
1. Over time, thought processes and political styles evolved with passage of time.
2. Advances in technology have borne an unprecedented influences on our socio-economic and political environment.
3. Contemporary thinking inevitably reflects this influence and moves us from a linear, cause-effect rationale to broader perspectives that encompass new methodologies and an understanding of networked and complex social-economic and political relations.
4. It means that a Dayak future leader must understand that leadership is not position of comfort and self-enrichment.
5. A Dayak future leader must be prepared and withstand the tests of that uncomfortable leadership position of responsiblility and accountability.
Thoughts on election:-
1. The last general election result proved that BN can be defeated.
2. From now on to the forthcoming state election (and after), all stakeholders of political changes in Sarawak must work in collaborative spaces.
3. Plans must be rooted in the fundamental belief that together we can craft constructive, workable policies to rectify the prevalent political, economic, social and legal injustices.

Readng through my posting, I notice repeatitious phrase in the first statement:
1. Over time, thought processes and political styles evolved with passage of time.
